Norwegian University of Science and Technology:
The Norwegian University of Science and Technology is, as the name suggests, an institution for technical education and research in Norway with a strong background in environmental sciences. This background is combined with extensive experience in the traditional academic fields of humanities, medicine, and social sciences. At the same time, NTNU offers the most comprehensive teaching in art, music, visual arts, and architecture of any Norwegian university.
Professors at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology collaborate with researchers from all over the world. They also collaborate with national and international companies and industries, including Norwegian public institutions. Research staff are involved in about 2,000 R&D projects per year and organize 20-30 major scientific conferences per year. NTNU staff work directly with two research institutes, SINTEF Group, and Allforsk, to build bridges between science and industry. The Norwegian University of Science and Technology has formal cooperation agreements with major Norwegian industrial companies.
The historical background of engineering research at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology dates back to the beginning of the 20th century, when Norway’s first electric railway, the Thamshavn Line, was successfully designed and built in Trondheim as an AC tramway using Trondheim technologies.
